The Democratic Party (DS) and its leader, Srdjan Milivojevic, filed a criminal complaint with the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime against Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic for the use of a sonic weapon, commonly referred to as a “sound cannon,” during a protest in Belgrade on March 15.

Milivojevic told reporters that the complaint is backed by medical reports from over 100 people who suffered health effects from the sonic weapon and consented to their names and medical records being used in the filing.

“The number of people who reached out to the Democratic Party reporting health issues from exposure to the sonic weapon at the March 15 protest is far higher, but some didn’t seek medical help, or only did so days later,” Milivojevic noted.

He explained that the injuries and health impacts on those exposed to the “sound cannon” fall into several categories, with most complaints involving hearing damage, bleeding from the ears, ringing in the ears accompanied by severe headaches, anxiety, loss of balance, and dizziness.

Milivojevic also demanded that the Prosecutor’s Office, under the Law on Police, immediately seize the sonic weapon, which he claims is illegally held by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and to investigate who acquired the weapon, under what conditions, and who else in Serbia possesses such devices.

He emphasized that the Prosecutor’s Office must investigate how “a president, an institution with ceremonial and protocolary duties, can call on foreign security services to investigate the use of a ‘sound cannon,’ which violates Article 2 of Serbia’s Constitution.”
