Although the government initially denied it, the Minister of Internal Affairs Ivica Dacic confirmed at a press conference that police have a long-range acoustic device (LRAD) which can emit sounds that could potentially be the sound cannon being discussed. Analyst Dragomir Andjelkovic assessed that the situation Dacic has found himself in has strained the relations between his SPS and the SNS. Pročitaj više
„The relationship between SPS and SNS is the relationship of two swindlers, one bigger and more powerful, and the smaller one who hates the bigger one for bringing him to the point where he has to bend like a worm,“ Andjelkovic told N1.
He adds that the Minister of Internal Affairs and leader of the SPS, „is an actor,“ who is now „being rejected by the majority of the party“ because he led it into this position.
„That’s why he is now subtly undermining Vucic so he won’t be radically discarded, but he’s not yet going at Vucic full throttle. He’s quietly undermining him, but not yet directly,“ says Andjelkovic.
He pointed out that Aleksandar Vucic does not like Dacic and has a negative relationship with him from before because he believes that Dacic once prevented him from becoming the mayor of Belgrade.
During the protest on March 15 in Belgrade, SPS official and member of parliament Branko Ruzic was seen, along with a large number of party members. The vice president of SPS, Novica Toncev, stated for Beta that he will request a discussion within the party about the future government and cooperation with SNS. „SPS will be part of the new government, provided that the SPS program is promoted within that government to the extent that citizens have entrusted us,“ he said. When asked whether there are divisions within SPS between supporters of Ivica Dacic’s policy and, on the other hand, Branko Ruzic’s, Toncev said that the party is united.
After several days of insisting that Serbia does not have a sound cannon, nor anything similar, and that it has never been used anywhere, as confirmed by the police, military, and BIA, Dacic first came out with the information that the LRAD 100X exists, but that it has never been taken out of the box. The next day, he posed for a photo next to the device and vehicle and demonstrated its operation.
On Informer TV, however, he complained about health issues due to the whole situation and also expressed that all the responsibility is on him. As the Minister of the Interior, he said he doesn’t know what will happen at the protest while his police officers are angry.
Andjelkovic believes that Dacic was being sincere, but he questions why the minister allowed Vucic to use him in this way.
„It’s clear that Vucic hasn’t handed over the police to Dacic and still controls structures in the police, which he manages, while Dacic (the Minister) is just playing the role and being pushed into the fire, taking responsibility for it. Dacic is an actor, but he is not willing to go that far with deception because this is a dangerous matter and could lead to an international investigation,“ the analyst assessed.
