Dijana Hrka and Milomir Jacimovic continue hunger strike

Dijana Hrka began her hunger strike near the pro-regime encampment outside the Serbian Parliament in Belgrade on November 2, the day after a commemorative rally in Novi Sad marking the anniversary of the Novi Sad Train Station canopy collapse, which claimed the life of her son and 15 others on November 1, 2024.

She is demanding the prosecution of those responsible for the Novi Sad disaster, the release of all detained students, and the calling of snap parliamentary elections.

On Friday morning, war veterans guarding Hrka’s tent told an N1 reporter that her health condition is as stable as it can be, considering it iss her thirteenth day on hunger strike.

They said that she is resting in her tent and that they will release more detailed information about her health condition after a doctor examines her later in the day.

Transport operator Milomir Jacimovic, who is on his fifth day of a hunger strike, said on Thursday evening that his underage son, who had joined him, had ended his hunger strike. Jacimovic and his son began their hunger strike on Monday outside the seat of the Government of Vojvodina in Novi Sad.

“I talked to him and convinced him,” Jacimovic told N1, adding that his son will stay by his side.

For months, Jacimovic has been providing free transport for students and citizens to protests. Over the past year, his buses have had their tires slashed, he has been detained multiple times, and police have seized his buses and issued him what he claims are millions in fines.

Jacimovic said he has two demands, both of which he said are simple: that his buses be returned to him and that the fines he claims were illegally issued be annulled.
