Party of Freedom and Justice (SSP) leader Dragan Djilas on Thursday accused US Ambassador Christopher Hill of confirming rumors of having been bought by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic by saying that “I see the protests against lithium as a struggle against Serbia's path to the West.”

“I truly know no other way to explain how you see can what you said about the struggle for democratic values, a healthy life, preventing the polluting of a large part of Serbia, therefore European, that is, Western values. It is even stranger that you do not see anti-Western stances in the appointment of Aleksandar Vulin as deputy prime minister or the prime minister’s statement that Serbia will never align its foreign policy with the EU’s. You see no problem in Serbia’s path to Europe in the stolen elections, the level of corruption and the harassment of [the government’s] political opponents, or the drop in democracy,” Djilas said in an open letter to Hill.

He said the ambassador also fails to see a problem with the state of the Serbian media, its abuse by Vucic and the amount of lies that are dumped on citizens, and is instead lauding Pink TV and Zeljko Mitrovic every chance he gets.

“But you do see a problem in three-fourths of Serbia not accepting the hypocritical stance of part of the West and East which is: green energy for us, and complete blackness for Serbs. Well Mr. Hill, this will not pass. You have wrapped up a big part of the [job of] creating an independent Kosovo with Vucic while not being bothered by what is happening to the Serbs in Kosovo or by the fact that what is being done now will cause new wars in several decades,” said Djilas.
