The leader of Serbia’s opposition Party of Freedom and Justice (SSP), Dragan Djilas, said that the policy of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) and Aleksandar Vucic towards Kosovo was wrong and that today Kosovo is more separated from Serbia than it was 11 years ago. Pročitaj više
„Everything we do is always viewed through the result. And the result of that policy is that today Kosovo is more separated from Serbia than it was 11 years ago,“ Djilas told the Beta agency.
According to him, the most drastic consequence of the SNS and Vucic’s policy is that the number of Serbs in Kosovo is at a „historical minimum“ and that they are „threatened at every step.“
He emphasized that Serbs today are not threatened only in the southern part of Kosovo, but also in the northern part, where they are the absolute majority.
When asked whether the state of Serbia can protect the Serbian people in Kosovo, Djilas said that today, as in 1990, Serbia is on the wrong side and that without Western allies it cannot do much to protect the Serbian people in Kosovo.
„It’s a meaningless story that Serbia can militarily protect the Serbs in Kosovo. Only when Serbia’s position in the world is such that everyone respects us and when we are part of European politics, we will be able to properly help the Serbs in Kosovo. Over the past 10 years, Serbia spent over eight billion euros for Kosovo, but the Serbs living there did not feel a cent of it,“ Djilas concluded.
