Serbia’s outgoing Foreign Minister Marko Djuric told the UN Security Council that Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti’s government is to blame for the deteriorating situation on the ground.

A Serbian government press release quoted him as saying that because of “unilateral moves and ethnically motivated incidents committed by the current ruling regime in Pristina headed by Albin Kurti, the situation on the ground in Kosovo and Metohija is getting worse and the Serbs are paying the price”. The UN SC met for a regular session on Kosovo which included a report by UNMIK chief Caroline Ziadeh.

Djuric called for the equal and consistent implementation of international principles and added that the EU-facilitated Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue remains the only viable path forward.

“We take this opportunity to appeal to the Security Council to respond in a meaningful way in order to prevent irreparable damage to the survival of Serbs and other non-majority communities in Kosovo and Metohija, as well as the destabilization of the entire region. I assure you that the Republic of Serbia remains clearly committed to building peace and stability, both in Kosovo and Metohija and in the entire region.

Speaking after the session, Djuric said that he pointed out that the UNMIK chief’s “very detailed and serious report … is very accusatory of the Pristina authorities and lists in detail all the unlawful attacks on Serbs and Serbian institutions”.
