Djuric: Serbia committed to full EU membership

Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric told Monday’s meeting of European Union and Western Balkans officials that Belgrade want’s full membership in EU.

“We want full membership as the ultimate goal and nothing less. There will be no compromise on that issue,” a government press release quoted him as saying at the meeting in Austria.

He said that all resources must be pooled to solve all the challenges that the region is facing. He said that a lot of people in the Western Balkans the EU enlargement includes the “one in, one out” principle “which affects the public's perception of the enlargement process”.

“By 2027, Serbia plans to complete all major legislative, economic and political reforms required for joining the European Union. Our priorities are very clearly set. In addition, we want to continue to be a factor of stability and help preserve peace in the region,” Djuric said.

Djuric told EU High Representative Josep Borrell and European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations Olivér Várhelyiafter the Friends of the Western Balkans meeting that Serbia is strategically committed to EU membership.
