My official visit to Serbia is yet another step in moving away from the politics of misunderstanding, one that leads to the fast improvement of also the formal, official political relations between Serbia and Montenegro, Montenegrin Parliament speaker Danijela Djurovic wrote in an article for the daily Politika.

Djurovic, who is currently paying an official visit to Belgrade, said that good and friendly relations between Montenegro and Serbia are important for the people, but that they can also give a strong impetus to strengthening regional cooperation and achieving full stability in the Western Balkans.

“This is why, as the Montenegrin Parliament speaker, I also welcome all the regional initiatives in which Montenegrin and Serbian representatives participate that contribute to lasting peace and stability in the region,” Djurovic stressed.

Noting that membership in the European Union (EU) is Montenegro’s and Serbia’s common goal, Djurovic said she “wants to completely openly and clearly tell the citizens of Serbia and dear friends leading Serbia that the European idea is integrative not only for individual states, but for our entire region.”

"It is an idea... because of whose value and importance we should do our best, right now, to join the EU as soon as possible," said Djurovic.

Vucic: Serbia will continue to promote stability in the region

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said at the meeting with Djurovic that Serbia will continue to promote stability in the region by pursuing the policy of peace and cooperation in the Western Balkans, as well as that it remains committed to developing good-neighborly relations with Montenegro.

Vucic said he expects that the two countries will continue resolving all outstanding issues by means of dialogue in a mutually acceptable manner, because good relations between Serbia and Montenegro are not only important for their citizens, but also for the region’s overall stability.

The two officials discussed bilateral relations, European integration, geopolitical issues, situation in the region and other key topics of importance for the citizens of the two countries.
