Doctor says more whooping cough cases than reported

Dr Vesna Turkulov, Health Ministry State Secretary, told Insajder TV the four babies that died after being diagnosed with whooping cough also contracted other viruses, including COVID. A doctor with the Public Health Institute said earlier this week that four babies died of whooping cough. An epidemic was declared in Belgrade several weeks ago.

According to Turkulov, all the infants who died of whooping cough were under the age of three months which means they were too young to be vaccinated. She said 65 children have been hospitalized with the illness in Belgrade’s Mother and Child Institute with another 59 in the city of Novi Sad.
