Serbia’s Supreme Public Prosecutor Zagorka Dolovac issued a statement regarding the indictment of 13 people over the collapse of a concrete awning at the recently renovated Novi Sad main train station which claimed 15 lives, and said that the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Novi Sad has begun making all available documents and information related to the train station reconstruction accessible to the public through the office’s official servers.

“Due to the substantial volume, the material is being uploaded in phases so as to avoid overwhelming access and ensure the normal functioning of the network environment,” Dolovac said in her statement.

She said that public prosecutor’s offices are pursuing cases against all individuals charged with criminal offenses during the protests in which students and professors from Serbian universities reported being victims. These proceedings are ongoing, and the public will be kept regularly informed, added Dolovac.

“At this time, all students previously detained have been released. The cases against students involved in the protests are being analyzed in detail, and any cases lacking crucial evidence regarding criminal liability will be dismissed,” Dolovac said.

“In line with the above, the public prosecutor’s offices in Serbia have responded to the demands presented by the protesting students to the Supreme Public Prosecutor’s Office on December 25, 2024,” she added.

“Nevertheless, Supreme Public Prosecutor Zagorka Dolovac and the Supreme Public Prosecutor’s Office maintain their invitation for a meeting with student representatives to take place as soon as possible to clarify certain demands and provide additional information,” the statement said.
