Leader of the Freedom and Justice Party (SSP) Dragan Djilas voiced strong criticism in an interview with Nova’s evening news, expressing frustration over the lack of arrests following the deadly incident at Novi Sad’s train station, which claimed 14 lives. Djilas argued that those responsible for regulatory violations, alleged corruption and negligence leading to the tragedy have yet to face accountability. Pročitaj više
Referring to a similar incident in Genoa, Italy, where officials were promptly detained after a bridge collapse, Djilas condemned the arrests of protesters rather than those accountable for the train station disaster. „People who attended protests have been arrested, from political figures like Jesic to young activists, yet those truly responsible remain free,” he stated.
Responding to official claims that a thorough investigation is ongoing, Djilas retorted, “The government seems capable of making arrests in mere minutes when it comes to protesters, but is much slower in holding accountable those tied to this tragic loss of life.” He alleged that authorities are concealing evidence and delaying access to the train station’s construction records, further pointing out that permits for the site were only secured shortly before the tragedy, marking a blatant legal violation.
Djilas also announced a rescheduled protest in Belgrade, now set for Monday, November 11, to accommodate suggestions for a non-working day, allowing greater turnout from across Serbia.
