Driver chased off after disrupting protest
An incident took place just before Friday’s silent protest on the Varadin bridge in Novi Sad when the driver of a BMW who pushed his car through the crowd before being chased off.
The incident happened on the road leading to the bridge from the University Campus.
The BMW driver, dressed in a black jacket with hood and track suit pants customary for regime supporters who have assaulted protesters, got of his car to argue with protesters but was confronted by protest security guards and another driver who chased him off leaving the BMW behind.
On Friday, Novi Sad police detained a 51-year-old man, identified by initials V.P., who is suspected of pepper spraying the driver of a BMW who had attempted to drive through a student protest earlier in the day.
A group of Novi Sad students gathered outside the police station in the city on Friday evening, demanding to give statements to the police regarding the incident. They later dispersed and announced plans to gather on Sunday at 1:30 pm in front of the Prosecutor’s Office building, when V.P.'s hearing is scheduled.
The 15 Minutes of Silence protest was extended by 14 minutes in memory of 2 people killed in the Serbian town of Arilje and 12 people killed in Cetinje, Montenegro.
