The Democratic Party (DS) on Tuesday supported the students’ demand for early parliamentary elections and emphasized that it acknowledges the fact that two-thirds of Serbian citizens currently back the student protesters, despite having repeatedly stressed that there are no conditions for fair and honest elections in Serbia.
“The life-giving energy, inspired by the courageous, persistent, and intelligent fight for freedom and justice that young people have awakened in the citizens of Serbia, gives full legitimacy to this demand of theirs,” the Democratic Party said in a press release.
It reiterated that it is ready to provide all necessary assistance to a university-student ticket in those elections, without fielding either its own list or a coalition list.
The struggle currently underway in Serbia is not for power, but for freedom, for establishing a normal life in society, and for rebuilding captured and destroyed institutions, the DS said.
