Earshot Founder and Director of Investigations Lawrence Abu Hamdan told N1 that his organization’s investigation shows that the weapon in possession of the Serbian police could have been used during a March 15 mass protest in Belgrade.

He said the investigation focused on the possible use of an LRAD 450 XL which is known to be in possession of the Serbian authorities and was known to be present that night. “We found it plausible that it could be that weapon, although we cannot say for sure it is that model. However, we also don't find it important to identify exactly the weapon, but more that an attack happened against people. It doesn't really matter what exact weapon was used. It matters that an attack happened against people manifesting silently,” he said.

He said that the investigation found “an overwhelming consistency in cross-corroboration across both the 3,000 statements and the 15 in-depth witnesses” Earshot had access to. He added that 60 percent of the witnesses had not heard a similar sound before the event and that 1,907 statements say that it was like a fast-approaching vehicle, a jet, or 200 motorbikes. “They consistently described the sound as coming towards them, passing over them, being inside of them. So it was really described as a physical as well as auditory sensation. He said that the fact that people aren’t used to hearing a sound behave like that is also an indication that a device was used which creates an extremely distinct and rarely occurring propagation of sound.
