The Ecological Uprising movement said it received information that the Security Intelligence Agency (BIA) has raided the Republic Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments.
“Our question for BIA Director Vladimir Orlic, and the country’s President (Aleksandar) Vucic is as follows: What is the reason for today’s raid BIA raid on the Republic Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments? This clearly relates to the government’s illegal decision to revoke the cultural heritage status of the General Staff building (former Yugoslav Army headquarters) and plans to build luxury hotels and casinos on the site,” said the movement in a press release.
Aleksandar Jovanoic Cuta MP told N1 that the BIA raid was intended to prevent staff from speaking in public about the General Staff building.
The movement renewed its call for President Vucic and outgoing Construction Minister Goran Vesic to release the original contract between the Serbian Government and Jared Kushner’s company to the public.
“Whose land are you giving away, and whose cultural monuments are you destroying, Aleksandar Vucic?” the movement asked.
