Faculty of Economics Professor Danica told N1 that she does not expect inflation to exceed 25 per cent and that she will not stock up on food.

Popovic told the N1 TV show New Day that “there is no need” to stockpile food. “I lived through the nineties and all. I know exactly what I will be able to find at the green market, at the market price, no stockpiles ever saved anyone,” she said.

When we look at the facts we see that “not wonderful days lay ahead”, Popovic said.

“If we were planning some major purchases or had plans to relax a little, we should forget about that, this is what a rational person would do. We will have everything else, food, electricity, as for whether we will have power cuts, it’s possible, but even when bombs were dropping there was no electricity for two-three hours at a time, so why all the threats now,” the Professor asked.

Popovic said the many announcements and forecasts for the winter mean that “the arbitrariness at the top is so great that we can hear exactly what the president has in mind that day.”

“If he is angry with someone he threatens us with shortages, if he is joyful he says it is not going to be a bad winter,” said Popovic, adding that anyone with half a brain never lets this get to them and never believes him when he talks about these issues.

Asked how high an inflation rate she was expecting, Popovic said “not more than 25 per cent.”

“Definitely not more than that. That is already terrible. There are inflationary expectations, if the president talks about 20 per cent on television at the top of his lungs, then it will definitely be 20,” Popovic said.

If this policy continues, if you freeze food prices, a shortage does not mean that there will not be any food, but that there will be none in the stores.
