Education Minister Slavica Djukic Dejanovic said on Friday that 96 percent of Serbian schools are operating as normal.
She told the state TV (RTS) that just one elementary school in the city of Pancevo and several high schools in major cities were under blockade, adding that “life is returning to schools” maing the situation better than over the past few months.
According to the minister, schools have drawn up plans to make up for lost classes with teachers standing in for their colleagues who aren’t holding classes. “The teachers still working can have up to 30 percent more clases and make more money as a form of motivation …. Headmasters can ask us for help and we can send in teachers from other schools,” she said.
The minister warned that the school year will fail if the university students don’t go back to classes in April and added that some colleges will go back to normal classes as of April 1.
She called university professors to go back to work, adding that they will get the pay they didn’t receive once they catch up for lost classes.
