Serbian Education Minister Slavica Djukic Dejanovic said the part of the Belgrade Vladislav Ribnikar elementary school in which the May 3 tragedy took place will be turned into a memorial center.

She explained that the dynamic and the process of deciding on what the center will look like is up to the parents, experts and other parties included in the process.

“Not only is there a chance that it will be built, it is a commitment, but conceptually and exactly what that memorial center will look like, that will be decided on by the parents with the experts, that is, with those who are the most competent, to send a message to everyone in the world that such horror will never again happen anywhere,” said the Minister.

On May 3 this year a 13-year-old male student opened fire on students and staff at the Vladislav Ribnikar school, resulting in the deaths of nine students and a security guard.

Parents of the children killed on May 3 at the Vladislav Ribnikar school staged a protest on Wednesday outside the school demanding that a memorial center be set up in memory of the killed students and security guard.
