The Spanish daily El Pais reported that Spain has confirmed accepting the passport of Kosovo as valid despite the fact that it does not recognize Kosovo’s independence, KoSSev reported citing Kallxo.

According to El Pais, the European Commission said in April last year that Spain will be the only country of the Schengen area that Kosovo citizens would not be able to travel to, reported KoSSev.

The European Union visa liberalization for the citizens of Kosovo took effect on January 1, 2024, allowing them visa-free travel within the European Union’s (EU) Schengen zone.

“Spain has accepted the passport of Kosovo as valid despite the fact that it does not recognize the independence of that country…,” reported the Spanish daily, citing sources from the Foreign Affairs Ministry and EU.

Kosovo Deputy Prime Minister Besnik Bislimi said on January 6 that Spain recognizes Kosovo passports and that Kosovo citizens can now also travel to Spain without visas, adding this was “more good news” for Kosovo.
