Election commission confirms list headed by blacklisted nationalist

The GIK confirmed the election ticket named The Army Returns to Kosovo – Misa Vacic at its meeting on Thursday. The list of candidates for the Belgrade City Assembly is headed by Vacic leader of the nationalist Serbian Right party.

The US imposed sanctions on Vacic in connection with “Russia’s malign influence in the region and the corruption that enables it”. State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said that Vacic was designated “for participating in Kremlin-organized illegitimate annexation referenda in Russian-occupied territories of Ukraine in September 2022”. He was blacklisted with former Serbian cabinet minister Nenad Popovic “who maintains close ties to the Kremlin and uses his network for corrupt schemes to build personal wealth”.

Vacic is known for his nationalist stands in general especially on the Kosovo issue. He was employed as an advisor in the Serbian government’s Office for Kosovo.
