Three northwest Serbian towns declared emergency situations following the storms that hit the country on the night of Wednesday-Thursday.

The Internal Affairs Ministry (MUP) said that Sremska Mitrovica, Sid and Ruma declared emergency situations because of damage caused by strong winds.

It said that fire-rescue personnel deployed 33 times to tackle fires caused by lightning, remove roof debris and fallen trees and branches.
