Mining and Energy Minister Zorana Mihajlovic said on Monday that Serbia wants to achieve carbon neutrality by the year 2050.

“Our goal is to achieve carbon neutrality by the year 2050. We will determine the dynamics in achieving that goal through strategic documents which are being drawn up,” she said at a meeting in Vienna with European Commission DG Energy Deputy Director Mectthild Worsdorfer.

Mihajlovic said, that a green agenda and energy transition are an important part of the country’s European path. Mihajlovic is in Vienna to attend the Energy Community’s 9th Energy and Climate Committee.

“We have taken important steps in the accession process and aligning the normative framework is just the beginning. The opening of Cluster 4 will allow us to implement reforms more easily and quickly in the chapters of that cluster – energy, the environment and climate change, transport and trans-European networks,” she said.

The outgoing minister said that Serbia adopted new laws, creating the basis to align with EU regulations.
