Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic signed on Thursday a Memorandum of Understanding between the Serbian Government and the Chinese company Hunan Rich Photovoltaic Science and Technology on a project to build a solar panel factory in Paracin, central Serbia, and a 200 MW solar power plant.
Under the MoU, the two sides will establish cooperation in the renewables sector.
Djedovic Handanovic also signed a framework agreement between the government and China Energy International Group on a project to build an oil and oil derivative processing facility in Smederevo, central Serbia. The plant, which will process up to 100,000 barrels of oil and oil derivatives a day, is an investment worth 2.4 bln euros.
The minister said she was very pleased to be able to sign the important agreements following a historic visit to Serbia by Chinese President Xi Jinping, which will boost Serbian-Chinese cooperation in the energy sector.
“Serbia and China have shown that strong and sincere friendship can bridge great geographical distances, and our political and economic relations have been elevated to the highest level in history,” said Djedovic Handanovic.
She noted that this is also attributed to the good personal relationship between the two presidents.
“Yesterday, they signed a Joint Statement of the two countries on deepening and elevating the comprehensive strategic partnership and building a community of shared future between Serbia and China in the new era,” the minister said, adding that China has been the largest foreign investor in Serbia in the past three years, as well as its second-largest trading partner.
