Environment minister views garbage dump fire
Serbian Environment Minister Irena Vujovic said on Monday that a state of emergency had been declared at a burning garbage dump outside the western city of Uzice.
The fire at the Duboka dump started on Sunday, the Ministry said in a press release, adding that firefighters and heavy machinery were engaged.
Vujovic said that the fire has to be brought under control as soon as possible so that work on the construction of a regional waste center can go ahead. She said the waste processing center would meet European and global standards.
