Environmental movement calls protest in front of Serbian government

A founder of the Ecological Uprising movement which has been organizing protests across Serbia told N1 on Thursday that anotehr protest would be staged on Saturday with the venue changed to the street in front of the government headquarters.

“The protest is on Saturday at 2 pm in front of the Serbian government. The demands are clear, disclose all contract. We want them terminated and Rio Tinto legally expelled from Serbia,” Aleksandar Jovanovic Cuta said in a live appearance on N1’s Behind the News talk show.

He said that every documents linked to the Rio Tinto lithium mine project have to be disclosed or the protests will continue after the New Year. Jovanovic also wants a 30 year ban on lithium exploitation. He also wants the misdemeanor proceedings against people who attended the weekend road-block protests withdrawn.
