Environmental Uprising calls for creation of Front for Defense of Serbia

N1

The Environmental Uprising movement will invite all opposition parties, environmental organizations, political movements, activists, professors and public figures who oppose lithium mining to create a joint “front for the defense of Serbia, Serbian citizens – water, air and soil,” the movement told N1.

It said it will soon inform the public about the date of the meeting, joint strategy, and plans for activities.

Serbian Preisdent Aleksandar Vucic recently told the Financial Times magazine that Rio Tinto’s lithium mine in Serbia could be opened in 2028.

Many activists and locals from the village of Gornje Nedeljice strongly oppose this. Members of the Environmental Uprising and Go-Change movements have said that they will continue to fight against this project through institutions, and if necessary, that they are prepared to take to the streets again.
