EU Ambassador hopes EuroPride parade will go ahead

European Union Ambassador Emanuel Giaufret said in Belgrade on Thursday that he hopes the pride parade will go ahead peacefully on Saturday.

The head of the EU Delegation in Serbia told reporters at a human rights conference that the important thing is that EuroPride is being held in Serbia for the first time in southeastern Europe, adding that the parade is an important part of pride week with a lot of people from European institutions set to attend. He said that the parade is an opportunity for people to show their desire for equality.

The ambassador said that he told Prime Minister Ana Brnabic that the EU is disappointed with the decision to ban the parade route.

According to Giaufret, human rights are an important issue for the EU. He said Serbia is facing some problems on human rights issues.
