The European Union is set to provide another 2.5 million Euro to support civil society in Serbia over the next three years, the Belgrade-based EU Info Center said on Wednesday.

The five grants will be earmarked to finance projects focused on civil society capacities in rule of law, fighting corruption, e-administration, urban and spatial planning, it said. The press release specified that 1.5 million Euro would be used to develop a political dialogue between the state and NGOs and strengthen the capacities of all sides for political dialogue while another million Euro has been earmarked for comprehensive monitoring reform in rule of law.

The press release quoted EU Delegation chief Ambassador Sem Fabrizi as saying that the civil society is at the heart of every democracy and as such is close to the heart of the EU. “The EU has been aiding civil society organizations in Serbia for more than two decades and now that aid has exceeded 60 million Euro,” he is quoted as saying.
