Head of the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX) Giovanni Pietro Barbano said EULEX monitored the collection of signatures for the dismissal of mayors in Leposavic and Mitrovica North, adding he was glad that everyone exercised their rights in a safe and organized manner.
Barbano said in a post on X that it is crucial that all citizens in all municipalities in the north are afforded the same rights to participate.
“As mandated, EULEX monitored the collection of signatures. I am glad to note that everyone exercised their rights in a safe and organized manner, as deemed by the RoL. It is crucial that every citizen in all municipalities in the north are afforded the same rights to participate,” said Barbano.
Along with his comment he also reposted European Union (EU) Ambassador to Kosovo Tomas Szunyog’s post who said he was pleased to see that Kosovo Serbs are using their democratic right and collecting signatures needed for the recall petitions on the mayors, and urged the Kosovo authorities to provide all necessary documentation and allow the groups of citizens to also initiate the collection of signatures in Zubin Potok and Zvecan.
