Eurojust and Europol said they helped stop a money counterfeiting group in Serbia and North Macedonia.

A press release said that the two organizations “supported an operation that put a halt to a criminal group that produced and sold counterfeit euro coins and bills. The criminals were active in North Macedonia and Serbia. Through a joint investigation team (JIT), the North Macedonian and Serbian authorities conducted their investigation leading to the arrest of 12 suspects,” it said.

According to the press release, the police in both countries launched the operation on February 2, arresting 12 people and raiding multiple locations and finding counterfeiting equipment. The police seized more than 180,000 counterfeit Euro banknotes in Serbia, and more than 500,000 in North Macedonia.
