
The European Democrats on Monday condemned the events at Friday’s protest in Novi Sad as a “brutal display of repression,” and called for a strong European response.

The European Democrats emphasized that Serbian people “deserve democracy, not dictatorship in disguise,” as well as that “a country that violently silences students, professors, and journalists cannot claim to be on a European path.”

“We stand with those in Serbia who are fighting for truth, freedom of expression, and the rule of law. Europe must speak up – loudly and clearly,” urged the European Democrats.
