European Democrats: Vucic regime threat to democracy

“We believe democracy cannot survive without accountability. Vucic’s regime threatens both,” the party said in an X post which added that his Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) is isolated and remains in power through violence and intimidation.

“Why is Vucic afraid of national elections? Because when he’s not sending thugs to beat up students, young people, citizens, MPs or journalists – as he did today in Mionica – he knows he can’t win. His party is increasingly isolated, holding on to power through violence, fear and voter manipulation,” the post said.

It added that the local elections in Mionica, Negotin and Secanj “were a snapshot of that reality: fraud, intimidation, assaults on observers, and mobs operating with police complicity”.

The European Democratic Party broke off from the European People’s Party which has been looking into its relationship with the SNS since September because of the protests and accompanying events in Serbia.
