European Democrats: Vucic’s signing of judicial laws tightens political control, not reform
The European Democratic Party (EDP) said on Friday that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic’s signing of a package of laws reshaping the country’s courts and prosecutors’ offices is not a reform, but a dangerous move to tighten political control over the judiciary.
In a post on the X social media platform, the EDP noted that these laws weaken judicial independence and push Serbia further away from European Union (EU) standards.
The party called on the European Commission to act firmly, emphasizing that accession requires real rule of law and genuine checks and balances.
