Agriculture expert Milan Prostran said on Thursday that the price of wheat won’t cover costs this year.
He said that farmer will suffer huge losses this year after wheat prices dropped from last year’s 42 Dinars to 18 Dinars this year. According to Prostran, the cost of growing wheat is between 30 and 36 Dinars.
He said that the effects of the crisis on the global wheat market are reflected on the market in Serbia.
Prostran said that the government took a good decision to buy 200,000 tons of wheat at a price of 25 Dinars because it helps farmers, adding that buying double that amount would be better.
