Farmers from Raca on Wednesday blocked all access roads to this municipality in the Sumadija District, central Serbia, in a show of support for students and to protest the increase in local property taxes.

The blockades started at five in the morning and are expected to continue until the early evening, Beta reported, adding that local residents joined the protests, offering their support by bringing drinks and food to the farmers.

In addition, tractors have also been parked outside the Raca municipal administration building since January 30 in response to the unsuccessful negotiations between the farmers and the municipal heads to revert the property tax rate to last year’s level.
