Farmers loyal to SNS sending tractors to Belgrade

Protesting students have called a mass protest gathering in the Serbian capital on Saturday, March 15 and have been assured by farmers that their tractors will be there in a show of support. Social media posts have been reporting that the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) is planning to counter the protest, including the tent camp set up in front of the Presidency building by alleged students.

The Initiative for the Survival of Farmers of Serbia said that farmers loyal to the ruling party are being recruited and paid to bring their tractors to Belgrade. “According to information from farmers all over Serbia, farmers loyal to the ruling party are being recruited and paid to provide tractors and drivers who would bring those tractors to approach roads to Belgrade or for organized towing with the excuse of protecting students in Pionirski Park (outside the presidency) or block approaches to Belgrade on March 15,” the Initiative said.

The Initiative shared a video of trucks transporting tractors to Belgrade. “Multiple trucks seen across Serbia all pulling tractors to Belgrade,” it added.
