Serbian Finance Minister Sinisa Mali said that the opposition’s comments that Serbia is over-indebted are “nonsense.”

Mali told Happy TV that Serbia’s public debts is increasing, but less than the gross domestic product (GDP), as well as that Serbia is “borrowing for investments not for consumption.”

He said the country’s public debt stands at 47.6 percent of GDP, which, he said, is a lower percentage than that in Europe.

Regarding the construction of a national stadium in Belgrade to host the Expo 2027 international exhibition, the Mali said it was “a clear example of stimulating private sector development.”

“There are tremendous positive effects on our economy, both direct and indirect. It is called an anchor investment,” said the Minister.
