Fire closes highway in southern Serbia
The Serbian Internal Affairs Ministry (MUP) said on Tuesday that some 200 fires were being fought in the country, with thick smoke and fire closing done one lane on the Nis-Leskovac highway.
Minister Ivica Dacic said during a visit to firefighters battling a forest fire on Mt Stara Planina that 159 fires were extinguished over the previous 24 hours. According to Dacic, the Stara Planina fire covered 2,500 hectares. He added that MUP personnel were fighting the fires with other specialized services, the Srbija Sume forestry company and others.
The police in southern Serbia said that one lane of the Nis-Leskovac highway had been closed because of a local fire which firefighters are tackling.
