Serbian Statistics Office (RZS) CEO Miladin Kovacevic said on Friday that 17,500 census takers have been trained to collect data using digital forms for the first time over the next month.

Kovacevic told a news conference a day before the census is due to start that it is a “tradition, need and obligation” whose results are of permanent value.

“The data will show us the current situation on the ground and future population trends, aging, movements…. That is why taking part in the census is important,” he said.

The head of the RZS Census Department Ljiljana Djordjevic said that the public answer sensitive questions about nationality and religion in any way they like. She said that those questions should be answered.

The first results of the 28th census in Serbia are expected to be released in just over a month with the final results of the census of individuals and households expected next spring.
