Fiscal Council says EXPO 2027 could cost 3.4 billion Euro

The Fiscal Council issued its opinion on the Draft Fiscal Strategy for 2027-2029, saying that the cost of the EXPO 2027 are increasingly clear despite the fact that data is hard to come by because expenses are listed on a large number of budget items attributed to different state bodies. The opinion warned that the overall cost of the whole thing is hard to assess.

Budget data the Fiscal Council reviewed show that the government set aside some 1.25 billion Euro for EXPO 2027 this year, most of it from the Finance Ministry. Associated projects such as the national stadium, transport infrastructure and the construction of a railway line cost 750 million Euro to date bringing the total cost of the entire project to some 2 billion Euro by the end of 2025. That does not include 550 million Euro for the EXPO itself and 850 million for other infrastructure projects.

The Fiscal Council said that the total expenses for EXPO 2027 of 3.4 billion Euro include state investment spending and current expenses (mainly subsidies).

The Fiscal Council is an independent state body, accountable to the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.
