Ivica Dacic, Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs, said that Kosovo has a sufficient number of votes for admission to the Council of Europe, considering the number of countries in that body that have recognised it, but that the question is whether they all think that this topic should be discussed now.

“When it comes to countries that have recognised Kosovo, we are in the worst position in Europe,” Dacic said in an interview with Politika daily, adding that the request for the admission of Kosovo was not activated at the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. He also recalled that Ireland did not do so during its chairmanship and that now Iceland presides.

According to him, Kosovo essentially would not have the right to become a member of the Council of Europe because, as Dacic said, it is not a state, it has not become a member of the UN, and only states can become members.

“For the first time, it would happen that there is outvoting with the admission of a new member of the CoE, i.e. that there is a conflict regarding that, and this has not happened so far,” said Dacic and added that this is the reason why many countries are not enthusiastic about the idea.
