Foreign Minister Nikola Selakovic said on Tuesday that the establishing of diplomatic relations between Israel and Kosovo will have an effect on Serbia’s relations with that country.

“Israel decided that it’s more important interest are links to America and what is important for America rather than Serbia. That is their legitimate right. What is important is that we did not take part in that process because President (Aleksandar) Vucic did not agree to sign the invitation for Israel to recognize Kosovo and vice versa,” Selakovic told the state TV (RTS).

He said that he is sure that more Moslem and Arab countries will not recognize Kosovo now.

We invested serious effort into relations with Israel, relations between the two people, and we are not happy about this. It’s indicative that senior State Department official Mathew Palmer tried hard to get this to happen. We will see if he is going to try as hard to implement other parts of the Serbia-America agreement signed in Washington,” the Foreign Minister said.

He did not want to specify when Serbia would open its embassy in Jerusalem. “Vucic said clearly in Washington what that process depends on and how it will develop in future,” Selakovic said.
