Vesic resigned on November 5 following a deadly accident at the Novi Sad railway station that claimed 15 lives and left two others critically injured. In his resignation announcement, he stated that while he did not accept personal responsibility for the accident, he was resigning for moral reasons.

On November 21, Vesic was arrested along with 11 others in connection with the Novi Sad accident. The Serbian Government waived his immunity, and he was ordered to remain in custody for up to 30 days.

Novi Sad District Prison Director Mile Jandric told the Tanjug news agency on Sunday that Vesic is on a hunger strike but that his condition is not life-threatening.

As is standard procedure for detained individuals receiving treatment in civilian hospitals, Vesic remains under the supervision of Security Service personnel at the medical facility.
