Geological engineer Zoran Djajic, who supervised the reconstruction of the Novi Sad Railway Station until March 2023, stated that he had raised concerns regarding the safety of the canopy at the station. Pročitaj više

Djajic told N1 that despite sending numerous warnings to authorities, including the need to remove facade panels to inspect their condition, his concerns were ignored.

In one of the photos included in his report, Djajic highlighted that behind one of the panels, parts of the concrete were missing and, in place of the concrete, „crumpled cement bags had been stuffed in to reduce the amount of concrete used.“

Djajic, who previously worked as a consultant for the CIP Transportation Institute during the reconstruction project, emphasized that during the first phase of the canopy renovation, only superficial repairs were done, such as ceramic ceiling repairs. In the second phase, he requested the marble facade panels be removed to check the underlying structure and ensure it was properly repaired, as originally planned. However, the contractor decided to simply repaint the panels instead.

To recall, the canopy at the entrance of Novi Sad Railway Station collapsed yesterday, resulting in 14 fatalities, while three injured individuals remain in critical condition.

The station had been renovated twice in the past four years—first between 2021 and 2022, and then again a few months later. It was officially reopened on July 5 of this year.
