A former Belgrade University chief told N1 that the students’ demand for snap elections is logical.

“I think this is the logical outcome of our expectations for the students to politically articulate their demands. Six months after the (Novi Sad Railway Station) disaster, I think that the students have concluded that the authorities will never meet their demands,” Professor Ivanka Popovic, the rector before current Rector Vladan Djordjevic and a members of the ProGlas Initiative, said.

She added that the important thing is that something is happening after what she feels was a lull. “Most people expected something to happen on March 15 at the mass gathering in Belgrade…. We all see clearly that the battle is not ending because something must change in Serbia,” Popovic said.

“We are facing a very hot summer,” she said and added that the students are setting the pace and have said that they want to create a united front.
