Passenger vehicles exiting Serbia for Croatia at the Batrovci-Bajakovo border crossing are facing waits of approximately four hours this Friday, with queues currently stretching five and a half kilometers.

Traffic in the opposite direction is moving smoothly with no reported delays, according to a reporter from the FoNet news agency.

Congestion at the crossing - one of the busiest transit points between Serbia and Croatia - is expected to persist or even worsen over the weekend.

The delays follow the April implementation of the European Union’s new Entry/Exit System (EES), a biometric registration process that has replaced traditional passport stamping.

Travelers believe that the new system has undoubtedly contributed to the massive queues now being seen at Batrovci and other border points.
