Four protesters released after questioning by prosecutors

A Novi Sad City Assembly councilor and 3 others were released from police custody after being questioned by prosecutors over their role in protests on the city’s university campus.

They were arrested during a police intervention at a protest in front of the university’s School of Philosophy which started after the dean forced his way into the building and threw out the protesting students.
Councilor Misa Baculov was the first to be released. He was followed by 2 activists and a student. All four were released pending further proceedings by a judge who refused prosecution demands for 30-day detention. They were accused of assaulting riot police and Gendarmerie troopers all of who were carrying shields.
The student, identified only as Pavle, told the crowd in front of the courthouse that he was injured by police at the protest and was beaten by them later. He collapsed during the interrogation and was treated by paramedics.

Pavle and activist Milos Markovic were released and were banned from public gatherings. The fourth man arrested identified as Marko told the crowd after his release that he was severely beaten by the police.
