Over 400 employees at the University of Novi Sad Faculty of Technical Sciences (FTN) signed an initiative declaring their full support for the demands of protesting students, adopting these demands as their own.

The employees submitted a document containing over 400 signatures to the faculty leadership, requesting that the institution officially endorse the initiative. However, the FTN academic council rejected the request during a meeting held on Wednesday.

The five demands put forth by the FTN students, first articulated on December 18, include: the release of complete documentation related to the reconstruction of the Novi Sad main train station; criminal accountability for those responsible for the reconstruction of the train station canopy, which collapsed on November 1, killing 15 people and seriously injuring two others; and the resignations and legal accountability of Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic and Novi Sad Mayor Milan Djuric. Additionally, the students demanded criminal prosecution of those who attacked high school and university students and citizens participating in peaceful demonstrations, as well as the prosecution of police officers who assaulted 74-year-old Novi Sad resident Ilija Kostic.

Students at FTN have been blockading their faculty since December 9. On December 12, the FTN academic council formally supported the students’ demands.

Dean Boris Dumnic is among the 2,000 professors who signed a statement supporting Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and the Serbia Must Not Stop ticket ahead of the December 2023 elections.
