German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is scheduled to visit Serbia and neighboring countries on June 10, Deutsche Welle reported quoting a Serbian diplomatic source.

The source said that the visit is part of preparations for a Berlin Process summit which is intended to forge closer ties between the countries of the Western Balkans. “That is the date we are looking at, the visit still has to be coordinated with other countries in the region,” the unnamed source said.

The source said that Scholz will certainly visit Pristina and could also visit Tirana and Skoplje and possibly Sarajevo.

Earlier, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung journalist Michael Martens said in a Twitter post that Scholz would visit Belgrade on June 10 to discuss energy, the economy and Serbia’s position on Russia according to his “usually highly reliable sources in Berlin”.

The Deutsche Welle source said that Scholtz wants to prepare well for the summit which is probably going to be held in August. “He wants the summit to reach concrete solutions and not just be an expensive trip,” the source said.
