German Internal Affairs Minister Nancy Faeser said her government is prepared to help refugees from Ukraine, but cautioned that there is an increasing number of migrants coming via the Balkan route and that Serbia’s “unacceptable” visa practice contributes to this, AP reported.

Faeser said Serbia has scrapped visas for some countries so their citizens pass through Serbia and cross into European Union (EU).

“To be clear, Serbia’s visa practice is unacceptable,” AP quoted Faeser as saying.

“This also contributes to the movements on the Balkan route. Serbia must adapt its visa rules to those of the EU. This is a clear expectation of the German government,” said Faeser.
